This webinar is the first of a series – each with a different focus and angle -and will focus on Tunisia and Egypt, the birthplace of the magnificent revolts. The aim is to revisit these historical moments with some of the finest scholar-activists, participants and witnesses from those very contexts. Together we shall reflect on some of the key achievements and defeats and draw new lessons.

A new edition of the “Ramadan at Rosa” event, in an #At_Home version

The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung in collaboration with the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity and the network “Politics of money” is organizing the International conference: “The quest for economic and Monetary Sovereignty in 21st Century Africa: lessons to be learnt and ways forward” from 6 to 9 November in the Cité de la Culture, Tunis.

Everyone knows about the existence of irregular migrants in Tunisia, but it’s not a political issue. Although the new constitution of 2014 includes a right to asylum, the existing respective draft law is waiting to be passed for two years..

In the framework of the Citizen Mapping Project http://kcit.org/, FTCR and Altercarto organize, in partnership with Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, a cycle of conferences and thematic workshops on collaborative data mapping articulated around the economic and social rights in Tunisia. The program is divided in five appointments from May until December, followed by a meeting of synthesis.

Climate change will fundamentally change North Africa, forcing millions to migrate, destroying agriculture. How can North African movements mobilise for climate justice and energy democracy before it’s too late? The coming transformation is an opportunity for revolutionary change, but also for local elites and neocolonial powers to increase exploitation.

In some countries, social movements or initiatives were able to transform themselves into political forces that represent a wide-range of their societies, have been covering comprehensive issues, and developed into more stable political organizations, for example parties. In other countries, this has not happened (yet).
