Rosa Book Club — Fall Edition: Feminist Readings, Global Voices
After the success of our Summer Edition of Rosa Book Club, dedicated to feminist readings, we are delighted to continue on the same path this Fall. Together, we will explore a new selection of books, writers, and figures who shed light on women’s struggles, identities, and voices across different times and places.
This season’s lineup takes us on a journey from Germany to India, the UK, and Oman showing how feminism is never monolithic, but always shaped by the intersections of history, culture, class, religion, and colonial legacies. Each book opens a unique window into women’s lives, resilience, and resistance.
September: Red Rosa (Germany)
A vivid graphic biography of revolutionary thinker Rosa Luxemburg by Kate Evans. It brings to life Luxemburg’s radical politics and her defiance of both imperialism and patriarchal norms, reminding us how one woman’s voice reshaped the struggle for justice and equality.
October: Heart Lamp (India)
A prize-winning collection of stories by Banu Mushtaq, translated from Kannada by Deepa Bhasthi. These intimate tales portray the everyday lives of Muslim women and girls in southern India, navigating patriarchy, caste, religion, and resilience. Heart Lamp is a groundbreaking work that amplifies marginalized voices and won the 2025 International Booker Prize.
November: Good Morning, Midnight (UK)
Jean Rhys’s haunting modernist novel set in 1930s Paris explores loneliness, economic precarity, and the fragile search for identity. Through the eyes of a woman on the margins, the book reveals the silent struggles of women navigating hostile or indifferent worlds.
December: Celestial Bodies (Oman)
Jokha Alharthi’s International Booker Prize-winning novel tells the story of three sisters and their families in a rapidly changing Omani society. It is the first Omani novel translated into English, and the first Arabic-language book to win the prize. It explores love, marriage, tradition, and autonomy from the perspectives of women caught between generational expectations and new possibilities.
Why We Read Together
At Rosa Book Club, we believe stories have the power to transform. By engaging with feminist perspectives from different parts of the world, we resist invisibility, amplify silenced voices, and imagine new possibilities. Our meetings are spaces to learn, unlearn, and share reflections in an open and supportive circle.
How It Works
We meet once a month to discuss the chosen book, guided by prompts and shared reflections. Everyone is welcome — no prior expertise required, only curiosity and openness. Along the way, we may also host guest voices and share contextual materials to enrich our conversations. A limited number of copies of the books will be made available to participants.
Join us this Fall to read, reflect, and grow together. Let’s continue building a community where literature sparks dialogue and feminist thought inspires change.
