Seminar: Climate Justice in North Africa

Faculté des sciences de Tunis - Le quartier Planète - Salle SP15
March 26, 2015 | 15:00

Climate change will fundamentally change North Africa, forcing millions to migrate, destroying agriculture. How can North African movements mobilise for climate justice and energy democracy before it’s too late? The coming transformation is an opportunity for revolutionary change, but also for local elites and neocolonial powers to increase exploitation.

This workshop will bring together organisations, workers unions and activists to provoke discussions about energy democracy & climate change in North Africa. How do we make climate change a class issue? How to challenge the World Bank’s dominance in framing the problem? How to problematise carbon trading and CDM and top-down renewable mega-projects like Desertec? Who are climate adaptation measure intended to serve – the rich or the people?

Objective: To start to build an indigenous Arabic discourse demanding climate justice and energy democracy.

The session will include the launch of a book by RLS and Platform.
