Impact of Climate Change on Migration Movement
Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, North Africa office
- Background
The impact of climate change has become a major issue for the international community. Its impact on migration flows is becoming a major concern for both governments and researchers. However, knowledge on the subject is still limited. The nature of the mechanisms involved in the decision of migration in regards to the climate impact on people still not clear. Moreover, there is a debate between those who emphasize the direct impact of the climate change on population movements’ and those who emphasize the social, economic and political context in which these movements occur.
What is clear now is that the information available on the impact of the climate change on migration are heterogeneous and fragmented.
To contribute to those reflections, and to better understand the migration movement in Tunisia, the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS) seek to conduct a study on the impact of climate change on migration.
