Ten Years in North Africa – Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung celebrates in Tunis.
On November 21, 2024, partner organizations, friends, guests, and the staff of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation gathered for a small celebration in the garden of the foundation’s office.
In the fall of 2014, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation opened its North Africa office. Based in Tunis, the foundation works in Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia.
The topics of collaboration with local non-governmental organizations, trade unions, academia, media, and experts span from economic development, climate protection, and food sovereignty to open and democratic societies, EU-North Africa relations, and postcolonial memory and history.
Over the past years, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation has successfully built a vibrant network of partners in the North African region to strengthen civil society and academic exchanges between both sides of the Mediterranean. These important connections between progressive forces in the Global North and South endure despite political differences during times of international tensions, conflicts, and crises. Good and, above all, honest relationships do not shy away from addressing disagreements.
The RLS’s stance on conflicts and wars and its commitment to universal human right is clear. International law and its advancement to support the individual development of every human being is our shared historical responsibility. In this spirit, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation advocates for the victims of the largely forgotten conflict in our region, in Sudan.
The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation also emphasizes the responsibility of combating climate change, which is primarily caused by wealthy industrialized nations. To prevent tragedies like the one in the Libyan city of Derna, every effort must be made to swiftly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is committed to promoting equitable climate protection worldwide, including through its participation in UN climate conferences.
The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation team extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success of its projects and programs over the past ten years for their commitment and enthusiasm for dialogue!
